The Evpaty Kolovrat Monument is an equestrian statue that is located in the northern part of the largest city and administrative center of Ryazan Oblast, Ryazan, within the Russian Federation.
As Evpaty Kolovrat played an important role in the fight for Ryazan against the Mongols in 1237, he was actually a bogatyr which in translation would mean a stock character in medieval East Slavic legends, which in turn made him a legend. When Ryazan was conquered by the Mongols, Evpaty Kolovrat wanted to avenge the destruction of the city a few weeks later, but unfortunately, he was killed while fighting the vastly superior Mongol army.
Today, the bronze statue itself is located on a large stone pedestal and the great hero is on a rearing horse that proudly presents itself and the great hero in his traditional war clothes. The pedestal is almost 2 m (7 ft) high, while the statue is a little bit more than 2 m (7 ft) high, making it the focal point of the small square and park that is in front of the post office building.
Unveiled in 2007, nowadays many people and locals who come to the city of Ryazan are seeing this grandiose statue and learn a bit more about the longstanding history that the Ryazan Oblast has. All in all, a great representation of a hero who gave his life in order to free his beloved motherland from the invading forces.
